Overview: The Research Experience and Mentoring (REM) Program at UCSD provides a 6-week paid research experience for high school and undergraduate students. Participants join interdisciplinary research teams focused on reducing pathogenicity in built environments and receive hands-on research training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

Key Information:

  • Location: UC San Diego, La Jolla, CA

  • Modality: In-person

  • Compensation: $6,000 stipend plus housing or commuting support

  • Time Commitment: 6 weeks (Late June to early August), plus conference attendance in the following spring

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or high school student (age 17+) and attending in the upcoming fall

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident

  • Native American students from Southern California and students attending California State University San Marcos or other primarily undergraduate institutions are encouraged to apply

  • Required application materials: personal statement, short-answer responses, resume, transcript, and one letter of recommendation
