Overview: The Latino Heritage Internship Program (LHIP) provides internship opportunities for young adults to work alongside National Park Service (NPS) professionals in diverse fields, including natural and cultural resource management, science, interpretation, and public affairs. The program aims to raise awareness of national parks and encourage Latino community involvement in their preservation. Interns receive hands-on experience, mentorship, career development opportunities, and financial support.

Location: National parks across the U.S. and territories

Modality: In-person, with some remote locations available

Compensation: Weekly stipend: $600 for PLC interns, $640 for DHA-RA interns, travel expenses covered, housing provided

Estimated Time Commitment: 12–20 weeks starting mid-May 2025

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident

  • Age 18–30 (veterans may apply up to age 35)

  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. program in natural resources, science, technology, or engineering (certificate program enrollees are not eligible for DHA positions)

  • Able to pass a federal background check

  • Relevant experience in natural resources or related fields
