Overview: The Crime Laboratory Citizen Volunteer and Internship Program offers non-paid positions to support various projects in the Crime Laboratory, enhancing participants’ educational or career development. The General Crime Laboratory Projects are open for applications on an ongoing basis, while the Latent Print Development program is closed unless otherwise indicated on the website.

Location: San Diego Sheriff’s Crime Lab, 5590 Overland Ave, San Diego, CA 92123
Modality: In-person
Compensation: Non-paid position
Time Commitment: Varies by project; Latent Print Development requires a minimum of 16 hours per week for six months
Eligibility Requirements:
Latent Print Development: Must have completed a 2-year degree in criminal justice with courses in fingerprints and forensic photography or be within two semesters of graduation
General Crime Laboratory Projects: Must have completed at least two years of a bachelor’s degree
Biology / DNA Position: Must be in the third year of a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field, with completed courses in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, and Statistics
