Overview:
The Youth Mental Health Academy (YMHA) is a 14-month community-based program for students from structurally marginalized communities in California. It provides hands-on learning in mental health science, practice, and communication. The program includes a paid summer academy, mentorship from health professionals, and a paid internship in a mental health-related field.
Key Information:
Location: California (Hybrid/Remote options for internships)
Modality: Hybrid, In-person, or Remote (depending on internship location)
Compensation: Up to $2,000 stipend for project-based learning; Paid internship
Estimated Time Commitment:
1st Summer (June 23 – July 24, 2025): 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday to Thursday
Academic Year (Aug 2025 – May 2026): Monthly workshops and mentorship
2nd Summer (July - August 2026): Internship with approximately 100 hours
Eligibility Requirements:
High school students enrolled in public or private schools in California
Must be from a structurally marginalized community
Strong interest in mental health
Commitment to completing the full program (June 2025 – July 2026)
Must provide proof of personal medical/health insurance coverage
GPA of 2.5 or higher
