Overview: The California Current Ecosystem (CCE) Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) site offers a paid summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Selected students will work with scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography on interdisciplinary oceanographic research, including mesocosm experiments, nearshore measurements, data analysis, bioinformatics, and modeling.

Location: Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, La Jolla, CA

Modality: In-person

Compensation: $18.25/hour (full-time, 40 hours per week)

Time Commitment: 10-12 weeks starting on or after June 23, 2025

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Must be a currently registered undergraduate student (or registered for Spring 2025 to work Summer 2025)

  • Required background in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Computer Science

  • Preferred: Upper-division science majors and students interested in graduate research in earth or ecological sciences

  • Must provide proof of health insurance

  • Cannot concurrently hold a UC student employment position
