Organization Overview:
The Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program is designed to attract West Virginia’s best and brightest students to the teaching profession. The program provides financial support to students who are committed to teaching in high-need areas such as math, science, elementary education, and special education within West Virginia.
Key Information:
Location: West Virginia
Modality: In-person (West Virginia schools)
Compensation: Up to $10,000 per year, renewable for up to four years
Estimated Time Commitment: Four years (length of the undergraduate degree)
Eligibility Requirements:
Open to high school seniors and current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in education
Must commit to teaching in West Virginia in a high-need area for at least five years after graduation
Must demonstrate academic excellence (minimum GPA of 3.25)
Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
