Organization Overview:
The Mentoring Youth NYC program, facilitated by Columbia University’s Community Impact, connects Columbia students with youth from underserved communities in New York City. The program focuses on building positive, supportive relationships to help young people navigate academic, social, and personal challenges. Mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and serve as role models to help mentees achieve their full potential.
Key Information:
Location: New York City
Modality: In-person (mentorship occurs in community settings and schools)
Compensation: Unpaid volunteer position
Estimated Time Commitment: Typically 1-2 hours per week for a minimum of one semester
Eligibility Requirements:
Open to Columbia University students
Must complete a volunteer application, background check, and attend training sessions
U.S. citizenship or legal residency not required
Mentors should demonstrate a strong commitment to youth development and be willing to foster a positive, long-term relationship with their mentee
